Something that really perplexes me is a baby shower.  Until this year I had never been to one.  For some reason all of my friends are starting to pop out kids like crazy.  I have been to two showers this year.  Good thing they have shower registries these days because I would have no idea what to get these poor pregnant women.  I go to Target and have to find the baby section, which I have never been to and locate things like “onesies” if I have even spelled that right.  And nursing pads, those were on the registry too.  I had my partner Michael with me so he knew what to get.  He’s been through the baby care stuff before.  His kids are grown up and easy for me to relate to.

The last shower I went to was just the most alien thing to me.  We played a game called “Guess what is in the baby’s diaper” where the hostess had melted different candy bars in small baby diapers.  You had to smell them to see what the candy bar was.  Whoever guessed right won a prize.  I could not bring myself to smell the diapers.  Needless to say, I lost the game.  I don’t think I have even ever changed a diaper.  I did babysit when I was younger, but I must have blocked it out or something.  There were other games too, but none were as gross as the diaper game.

I appreciate being able to share the experience with these women, since my women friends are so few and far between.  Baby showers to me will always be strange and unusual things.
